House, Sandymount, Dublin 4, 2005

This house had an original floor area of 74m² and this was extended to 151m² to create a spacious three-bedroom house. The rear ‘L – block’ extension recalls the idea of a Roman courtyard, although it has an open side to the rear garden.

The interior of the original house was re-modelled and the first floor area was increased by 'tilting' the existing roof plane, creating a larger space for a master bedroom. At ground floor level a new oak stair is inserted into an enlarged hall space, which also functions as a library.
